Starting in 2013, Oceania Cruises will enhanced its Oceania Club loyalty program including a new Blue membership level that will allow passengers to start earning rewards on their first cruise. Additionally, air deviation fee waivers and substantial savings on Internet, shore excursions, beverage packages and logo merchandise have also been added to the benefits.

Azamara Club Cruises "AzAmazing Evening"
2 october 2012  |  Gary M Pollard
Here is some exciting news - Azamara Club Cruises will include the ‘AzAmazing Evening,’ an immersive free shore excursion event, on every voyage. Plus, a selection of complimentary standard spirits, wines and international beers during the bars’ opening hours. Beginning with Azamara Quest and Azamara Journey’s next Europe season, March 27 and May 15, 2013.

Some of the new customized event highlights a region’s culture and distinct personality and varies from voyage to voyage. In the Baltic, for example, the ‘AzAmazing Evening’ could be a private ballet performance in St. Petersburg, Russia, where participants walk the red carpet and sip champagne. Or, in the Mediterranean, passengers may sample jerez, Spain’s famous sherry wine, at Gonzalez Byass and later attend a private equestrian ballet at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.

These new features added to the already included gratuities for housekeeping, dining and bar staff; bottled water, soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas; complimentary self-service laundry, English butler service for suite passengers and shuttle transportation to city centers in ports, where available.

4th Annual Ambassador Tours' President's Cruise
15 may 2012  |  Gary M Pollard
After first discussing the idea of sailing to Hawaii with Chris, she first wanted to know how many days it would take. Then, once she thought about all the things there are to do on a ship for those days at sea, she agreed to go. (We played dominoes and scrabble a lot!)

Sailing from San Francisco is a treat in many ways - under the Golden Gate Bridge, no airport to go to and taking as much luggage as we can!! Well on April 13, 2012, we departed aboard STAR PRINCESS for our 4th Annual Ambassador Tours' President's Cruise with 80 travelers who wanted to help us celebrate in style.

A very nice day greeted us as we sailed beneath the world's most famous bridge. Our journey across the Pacific began, and for 4 straight days we saw blue waters and blue skies and of course some active seas.

Finally we arrived at the first of four Hawaiian Islands - I can see why they call this paradise. Each island offers something unique and the people greeted us with open arms. Princess Cruises offers an array of excursions from sitting on a bus taking in the sights to soaring on a zip line. (Yours truly did the zip line!)

Aboard Star Princess we enjoyed many nice dinners in the Portofino restaurant. We even took in two dinners at their alternate restaurants - Crown Grill and Sabatini's. I can personally recommend anyone who sails aboard a Princess Cruise to experience some of the finest service and food served aboard any ship on the high seas!

Onboard destination lecturer Sharron Faff presented many topics to prepare us for our arrival on the islands. Her talk on whale migration between Hawaii and Alaska was given on deck and shown on the "Movies Under the Stars" screen. The typical ice carving demonstration was a hit along with various pool games. One of the most attended events aboard Princess is the Art Auction - and let me tell you, when that takes place you know it - the rest of the ship areas are silent!

Our group had two cocktail parties and were well attended and good times where shared by all.

ISLANDS:

Our first port of call was Kauai (Nawiliwili). Today was a big day for us. First, we got to step on to LAND and after 4 days at sea I could not wait. Second, Chris and I were going zip lining… By the way – Kauai is one of the most beautiful places on earth. If you have not been here before, you need to go. Our adventure took us to Kipu Ranch for a trek, swim and zip line. We ate lunch in a peaceful area near a waterfall that completed our adventurous day.

Next port of call was Honolulu (Oahu). Since we had been here only a few years back we chose to have breakfast on our balcony (a gift from one of our clients) (see photo). Later we took off to Waikiki Beach and enjoyed a day at the beach using the facilities of Outrigger Reef on the Beach Hotel. Another first for me was to have a Mai Tai which I did with Chris and a few clients at the Aloha Tower and watched the sunset.

Next port of call was Hilo. Today we signed up for a kayak journey through Hilo Bay. A two-mile paddle over very calm waters made the sights we saw enjoyable. One short stop we made had us seeing a few large turtles. Pretty cool. On the way back to our ship we were taken by car to see Rainbow Falls - over 200 feet tall and pretty spectacular!

Last Island was Maui (Lahhaina). My favorite island. Since we are going back this fall we chose to shop and eat. I got to pick-up a RED DIRT shirt made from "real" red dirt in Hawaii. For lunch we experienced CHEESBURGER IN PARADISE. Love that place. I am sure that everyone has heard of or tasted Lappert's Ice Cream. My favorite – Chocolate!

As we sailed from Hawaii we saw a sunset that was second to none – just breathtaking.

Five days later we arrived under the Golden Gate Bridge and home.

I recommend this cruise to anyone. Why? Very relaxing and for those who, like me, do not like to fly that much or at all…

Disney Fantasy
3 april 2012  |  Gary M Pollard
My wife, Chris, and I just returned from a WONDERFUL three-night cruise aboard Disney Fantasy this past week. We felt very lucky to be included in this pre-inaugural sailing.

As I'm sure you know by now, I have seen and cruised on many ships - over 50 to date, and still counting - and I have to say that, by far, this cruise was one of the best! Yes – one of the BEST! Even without taking our children we felt that Disney has great activities for adults, and while there was no casino on board we found plenty of fantastic (and, dare I say, MAGICAL) things to do.

The cabins are very well appointed and have the most up-to-date features, including ample closet and drawer space.

Each cruise you get to enjoy dinner in the three different dining rooms: Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Court. One of the nicest features is that your waiter and assistant waiter follow you each night, so they already know your preferences. Each restaurant has a theme and the food is OUTSTANDING. Disney Fantasy has two optional dining venues as well – Palo and Remy. While we were unable to take advantage of these during our cruise, the menus and design of each restaurant looked stunning.

One of the "special features" of Disney Fantasy is the AquaDuck - a 765-foot long water coaster (not slide) which takes you around and off the side of the ship and back! Very cool and, YES, we did try it and loved it!

There is so much more to tell, but this blog is only so long… Call me for even more details and first-hand accounts of this amazing ship!!
